2017-Heisman-Trophy-Odds-Watch
Hey! What do you know, college football season is almost here. But for all the talk about which teams are going to make a run for the four spots in the College Football Playoffs, we shouldn’t be overlooking the ever-growing excitement for how the Heisman Trophy race would unfold as the season progresses. Here are some of the top candidates according to sportsbooks odds.

Sam Darnold

Darnold’s name blew up last season, when he led the USC Trojans to nine straight wins. That stretch was capped by magnificent performance by the quarterback in the Rose Bowl, throwing for 453 yards with five touchdowns against only one interception in a 52-49 win over Penn State. The Trojans are positioned inside the top 10 of several preseason rankings so that’s a sign of how people expect Darnold to play just as good, if not better than he was last season, moving forward.

Lamar Jackson

Jackson rode eye-popping numbers last season to win the 2016 Heisman Trophy. That year saw the Louisville Cardinals quarterback throw for 3,543 yards with 30 touchdowns and rush for 1,571 yards with 21 rushing scores.  By now, the public is very much spoiled by Jackson but it’s going to be hard for the quarterback to duplicate those 2016 figures this coming season. Nevertheless, the Cardinals are going to go as far as where Jackson takes them so all eyes remain on the dual-threat signal caller.

Baker Mayfield

Mayfield was sort of underappreciated last season despite his exceptional play on the field as Oklahoma’s starting quarterback. Mayfield was the best quarterback in the Big 12 in 2016, tossing 40 touchdowns with only eight interceptions while leading the Sooners into the postseason, winning against Auburn in the Sugar Bowl. A ton of responsibility is on Mayfield’s shoulders this season with the Sooners losing key players from last season such as Dede Westbrook, Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon.
