The latter half of the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season is upon us, and we’re still not entirely certain on who we can really count on from the field of drivers as true contenders for the championship race. 10 different drivers have won in 13 points-based races thus far, which basically means that just about everybody still has a good shot at emerging victorious in Homestead this November.
Having said that, let’s take a look below at three of the current front-runners for the Cup Series title as per the good folks over in Vegas. And if you’re still in search of a viable sportsbook site for your betting thrills, check out our very own sportsbook review section for some tried and tested online bookies.
As unrelenting as ever, future Hall-of-Famer Jimmie Johnson has yet to put his foot off his NASCAR career’s pedal. Johnson, the seven-time and reigning Cup Series champion, continues to show why he’s arguably the best driver in the sport’s history, as he’s one of only three drivers to have won multiple races this year thus far.
It should be noted as well that Johnson is looking to break his tie with Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt for the most Cup Series wins. With that in mind, we really shouldn’t be surprised as for why the ageless 41-year-old stock car racing legend is the current overall favorite to re-write the record books this 2017.
Joe Gibbs Racing standout Kyle Busch is known for his mid-to-late season runs, and he’s certainly gearing up for his usual playoff push this very instant. The Vegas native followed his win at the All-Star Race with a runner-up finish from last last week’s race in Charlotte, giving him three second-place finishes for the season.
Although Busch has yet to taste victory this 2017, it’s only a matter of time before he takes the checkered flag from one of the upcoming races to further strengthen his case and seeding for the postseason. The 2015 Cup Series champ has four-consecutive top-five finishes to date, so expect Busch to go on a tear starting now.
A couple of young upstarts in Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott are grabbing a lot of attention this 2017. However, let’s not forget that 27-year-old Joey Logano is currently in his prime and is quietly having one of the more consistent campaigns amongst all active drivers this year.
Logano has a total of nine top-10 finishes this season, with eight of those outings having him finish no worse than sixth place and with a victory from the spring race at Richmond under his belt as well. Speaking of sixes, “Sliced Bread” has also finished in the top six of the final standings for the past three years, which means he’s always in contention for the title until the very end of the season.
