Chestnut

The odds are in for the nation’s biggest competitive eating gauntlet – the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Once again, Joey Chestnut (-400) leads the way as the tournament favorite, but there’s a compelling field this year that could potentially take him down.

Chestnut is the defending champ, but his eight-year reign was ruined in 2015 by Matt “Megatoad” Stonie, who will be returning in 2017. Rich LeFevre, from Henderson, NV, recently took down an 8-pound burger at the Monte Carlo hotel in Las Vegas. He won the regional qualifier by downing 30 hot dog like they were nothing. Although he’s nearing 60-years of age, he’ll be ready to go on July 4th.

Geoffrey Esper of Oxford, MA is another intriguing name. He took the regional qualifier with a personal record 50 dogs. He’s been competitive eating for years and qualified for the 2015 Nathan’s in Coney Island.

If you think Geoffrey, Rich or Matt could take down Chestnut, you’re looking at +300 odds for the ‘Field’.
