NHL-Future-Odds-Update

The NHL trade deadline has just concluded, which means title contenders have made some last front office moves in preparation for the grind of the playoffs. With that said, let’s take a look at some of the odds for teams in clear contention of the Stanley Cup this season.

Washington Capitals

Look, the Capitals, by now, are tired of winning President Trophies. The Capitals are so ripe for a Stanley Cup title. The team is complete and talented from top to bottom and Washington just recently fortified its roster with the acquisition of defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, a move that strongly radiates of the team going all in this season. The Capitals have odds of +450 to take home the Stanley Cup title.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Sidney Crosby is having yet another great season and so long as he’s healthy, the Pens are going to be a force to reckon with. The defending champions, who are +800 to repeat, also have other all-world players in the form of Evgeni Malin and Phil Kessel fortifying the secondary units behind Crosby’s line. The team’s front office also added a pair of key veterans in Mark Streit and Ron Hainsey to help Pittsburgh down the stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs.

Los Angeles Kings

The Kings are currently out of the playoff picture, hence the long odds of +3,000 to nail a Stanley Cup title. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned from the previous Kings teams that won it all, it’s that seeding in the postseason doesn’t matter. Jonathan Quick is healthy and the Kings also got a big-named backup goalie in Ben Bishop just before the trade deadline so LA still has enough left to make a playoff push. As of this writing, the Kings are just one point back of a wild card spot in the western conference.
