With the 2017 NFL Draft in the books and OTAs underway, the anticipation for the upcoming football season is surely heating up. While we still have a few months to go before the regular season officially kicks off, the football-betting action never sleeps, as oddsmakers have released the latest futures odds for Super Bowl LII.
Are the New England Patriots, the league’s defending champs, still favored to pull off a repeat? Or has a new top contender emerged in the wake of movements during the offseason? Let’s find out below. And if you’re still in search of a viable sportsbook site for your betting thrills, check out our very own sportsbook review section for some tried and tested online bookies.
To nobody’s surprise, the Patriots are still the clear-cut favorites at becoming six-time Super Bowl champions when the upcoming season is all said and done. Unlike previous Super Bowl winners, the Pats seem to have gotten even stronger during the offseason. The additions of speedy wide receiver Brandin Cooks, and running backs Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee, will serve as Tom Brady’s new weapons in the offense, which will also see the likes of Rob Gronkowski and Dion Lewis returning to health from their respective injuries.
There’s an age-old saying that the rich only get richer, and the Patriots can certainly attest to that. Bill Belichick and the New England front office has done a masterful job at sustaining a title-winning roster year-in and year-out, and their deft maneuvering for the upcoming campaign may be their best performance yet. As such, the boys from Foxborough are certainly deserving to be heralded as the odds-on favorite to win back-to-back Lombardi Trophies.
America’s Favorite Team is back in the spotlight after a banner 2016 season, which featured two rookies that took the league by storm. Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott made for a versatile one-two punch that the Cowboys rode all the way into the playoffs, with huge props going to the best offensive line in the NFL as well in making Dak and Zeke’s professional debuts all the more impressive.
Sure, a sophomore-season regression from both Prescott and Elliott isn’t out of the question, but the two young standouts appear very mature and in-sync beyond their respective ages to prevent a second-year slump from happening. In turn, Dallas does indeed look like it’s built to win the Super Bowl not only this season, but for many years to come at that.
With the Patriots expected to dominate the AFC en route to a Super Bowl LII berth, it stands to good reason then that three other NFC teams along with the Cowboys are next in line as true contenders for the Lombardi Trophy. Those three teams happen to be recent Super Bowl participants themselves, with Green Bay, Seattle and reigning NFC champion Atlanta currently sharing the same odds.
The Falcons may have just squandered their best shot at winning the Super Bowl by way of a meltdown for the ages, but like the Patriots, they saw few key departures from their core roster last season apart from offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Meanwhile, the Packers and the Seahawks appear equipped to win their respective divisions with ease this coming the regular season, which should make for a very compelling NFC playoff picture featuring all four of the conference’s heavyweights that we’ve just covered.
