Sportsbooks Select Early Favorites To Win The 2016 Heisman Trophy

Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

Watson is the leading favorite (+450) to win the Heisman Trophy heading into the new season. He was the runner-up in the Heisman voting in 2015, so it’s not surprising that most sportsbooks are feeling high on him. Besides that, the versatile junior quarterback is looking build on his sophomore campaign, during which he threw for 4,109 yards, 35 touchdowns and just 13 picks. He also showcased his ability to run with the ball, rumbling for 1,105 yards with 12 scores in that same year. Watson, overall, is in line to replicate or better those numbers especially since he’ll continue to be surrounded by a strong supporting cast, which features a number of standouts like WR Artavis Scott, RB Wayne Gallman and TE Jordan Leggett, in Clemson.

Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford

McCaffrey (+500) placed third in the Heisman Trophy race after a strong 2015 campaign at Stanford. Clearly, his biggest accomplishment during that year was when he surpassed Barry Sanders’ NCAA record for all-purpose yards (2,019 rushing yards, 645 receiving yards).  In a nut shell, this guy can kill you in a variety of ways and that’s bound to be the case again for this upcoming season.  But if you’re still not convinced about him, check out his incredible Rose Bowl performance.

Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU

Most would say that Fournette (+600) should have won last year’s Heisman Trophy. After all, he began the season by rushing at least for 150 yards with a score in seven-straight games before that momentum-crushing game versus Alabama. With that said, this year is where we will likely see another monstrous campaign from LSU’s star running back. Fournette should be even better, slightly more matured and hungrier to dominate the competition.
