Jordan Spieth

We’re only a few weeks away from the start of the 2016 Masters and excitement is definitely building for the year’s first major golf championship. All eyes will definitely be on Jordan Spieth as he attempts to defend the title he won so convincingly last season.

Spieth may have ran away with the Masters crown last year but surprisingly he is not the odds-on favorite to win the title at Augusta next month. Read on below to find out which golfers are favored to win the coveted green jacket and while you’re at it, you can check out our sportsbook review section to find out which sportsbooks provide the best sports betting opportunities.

EXAMINING THE FAVORITES FOR THE 2016 MASTERS

Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy remains the sportsbooks’ top pick to win the Masters next month, with his odds currently priced at +700. Who can argue against this fact after his impressive showing in this golf event last year? He shot a 12-under-par total of 276 to  finish solo fourth behind champion Jordan Spieth. McIlroy is desperate to grab the victory here at Augusta as a win would finally complete the career Grand Slam for him.

The one thing going for McIlroy is that he has been playing some solid golf of late. He already has three top-six finishes this year, including a solo third at the WGC-Cadillac Championship earlier this month. His golf game seems to be a perfect fit for Augusta so don’t rule out the Northern Irishman from finally winning his first ever green jacket this year.

Jordan Spieth

Spieth captured the imagination of sports fans everywhere with his stunning triumph at Augusta last year. He made sure there won’t be a repeat of his final-round collapse in 2014, lapping the field with an 18-under-par total of 270. That mark tied the overall scoring record set by the great Tiger Woods in 1997. There’s no question Augusta fits Spieth’s eye perfectly so it isn’t far-fetched to see the Texan win another green jacket this coming April. He is pegged at +750 to win his third major championship next month.

Jason Day

Another golfer who’s expected to perform well at Augusta next month is Jason Day. The Australian has fared extremely well in this tournament in the past, finishing tied for second in 2011 and grabbing a solo third back in 2013. He also knows how to deliver in the big stage as evidenced by his stunning display at the PGA Championship last August. Day became the first golfer to finish 20 under in a major championship, breaking the record set by Tiger Woods at the British Open in 2000. His odds of winning back-to-back major titles are currently priced at +1,200.

With all of this information in mind, it’s time to make a decision. Create an account with our favorite golf sportsbook and take your pick on who you think will win the Open Championship this season.
